KISS. What can I say about KISS that probably hasn't been said a million times before? Nothing. But the concert last night at the Forum was everything I expected to see from KISS and more. On this tour they said they were going to revert back to the stage show of KISS Alive II. Well they did just that, in perfect form, but they pushed it one step further. Ace's guitar solo was incendiary, Gene's bass solo was full of flames and blood and Peter's drum solo was, by far, the best one I have ever heard, and since I've been to concerts since 1986 and see the best bands in the world, I've heard a lot of drum solos but this one was more than just ego pumping, it rocked the audience. What you would of seen last night that the people who attended KISS when on tour creating ALIVE II didn't see was Ace firing off rockets from his guitar towards the end of his solo, and Gene being lifted above the stage during his solo and actually standing on top of the lighting rig which was set up with a microphone and finishing off his solo and actually playing the next song from there.
KISS hit the stage with a huge explosion from the pyrotechnics that totally pumped up the audience and didn't let them settle down for the next two hours. The opening number was Deuce and it was awesome to see the original line up, in fully makeup and costume, rip threw that number. Highlights of the evening were the songs Rock & Roll All Night were Paul (Stanley) wanted a little audience participation for the chorus, Cold Gin (also with audience participation), Strutter and Love Gun. But the ultimate part of the night (and I know a lot of people were wating for it, since NO ONE left until the lights came on) was Peter singing Beth. He can't sing worth shit but to hear him singing that song was totally awesome. Before beginning the song he picked up a few roses from the seat he sat on and threw them out to audience members in the front rows. Peter Criss wasn't the only member of KISS that joined in on singing a few tunes. Of course you have Gene and Paul but even Ace sang a few tunes, one being SHOCK ME and the other I don't know the title of (anyone??). What KISS did with their stage shown I have never seen done to that level by any other band around. From flames coming out of the stage to, bombs going of, lights flashing, and even a disco ball that provided an aquatic look to the stage during one song. There stage show was definetly from 1977 but with technology from 1996 it was downright bitchin'. From beginning to end this concert had to have been one of the best I have ever seen. Other tunes played that night were, God of Thunder, Shout it Out Loud, Do You Love Me?, Black Diamond, Detroit Rock City and many others. To top of the evening, the band played a four song encore that ended with Paul Stanley smashing his guitar in half and giving the pieces to audience members.
